How a visit runs

A finished project, planned around the light

Approach

I plan around the light.

The light moves through the building, and each room has a short window, so the day is ordered around that.

I photograph the decisions that hold a building together, so the design is still legible in the picture. Those decisions are where the building sits, why a room opens as it does, which material was chosen, and which view has to read.

The visit

Project intakeThe project intake comes first. It covers the story of the project, the rooms that matter, and how I reach the site. Drawings come with it. A call is welcome. It is not required.PlanningI read the drawings, work out the light and the access, and send a note ahead of the day.The dayExteriors and interiors, aerial where the site allows, and film when it is part of the work. I move quietly.EditingI edit every frame myself, in Lightroom and Photoshop. Restrained, so the room reads the way it reads standing in it.GalleryThe photographs are in an online gallery, typically within 5 to 10 business days. Licensing is written for the agreed use.
