Your architectural photographer, based right here in Squamish

Squamish is one of British Columbia's fastest-growing communities. Oceanfront mega-developments, sustainable net-zero builds in Garibaldi Estates, and ambitious custom homes on the benchlands are reshaping the town year over year. The architects, builders, and designers behind that work need imagery that communicates the same level of care they put into every project.

I'm Matt Anthony, and I live and work in Squamish. Being local means I understand the light here — how the Stawamus Chief casts deep shadows across western facades in winter, how Howe Sound reflects soft diffused light on overcast mornings, and why scheduling a twilight exterior around the coastal mountain ridgeline matters more than the clock.

Local knowledge translates directly into better photographs. I know which Squamish neighbourhoods catch the best afternoon light, when the morning fog lifts off the sound, and how to plan around the Sea-to-Sky's rapidly shifting weather. For architects and builders working in Squamish, that means fewer scheduling delays, no travel charges, and imagery that captures your project in the context it was designed for.

Every shoot begins with understanding design intent. I review plans, walk the site, and talk through your vision before composing a single frame. The result is photography and short-form film that communicates your decisions with the clarity and precision they deserve — whether that's a spec home in Brackendale, a heritage renovation in downtown, or a multi-million dollar custom build with views of the Tantalus Range.

Why a Squamish-based architectural photographer makes the difference

Squamish sits at the meeting point of ocean and alpine environments. The light, weather, and landscape here are unlike anywhere else in the Lower Mainland — and photographing architecture in this setting requires someone who knows it intimately.

Mountain Light & Coastal Weather

The Stawamus Chief and surrounding peaks create dramatic, fast-changing shadow patterns. Howe Sound produces soft, reflective light on overcast days and vivid colour during golden hour. I track these conditions daily and schedule shoots to capture your project at its absolute best — not when it's merely convenient.

Zero Travel Overhead

Being based in Squamish means no travel fees, no overnight costs, and the flexibility to reschedule same-day when weather shifts. For builders and architects working against tight project timelines, having a photographer ten minutes away eliminates a major variable from your schedule.

Architecture in Context

Squamish homes are defined by their setting — mountain panoramas framed by floor-to-ceiling glazing, exteriors clad in materials chosen to weather coastal conditions, site plans shaped by terrain and viewscapes. I photograph buildings in relationship to their landscape, capturing the dialogue between built form and the natural environment.

Squamish Architecture

A design community that's growing fast

Squamish has evolved from a resource and recreation town into one of BC's most dynamic building markets. Major waterfront developments like Oceanfront Squamish and Sea and Sky Waterfront Landing are bringing thousands of new homes to the corridor, while custom builders in the Garibaldi Highlands, the Estates, and University Heights are pushing architectural standards higher with every project.

Net-zero and high-performance homes are increasingly common here — Squamish requires Step 4 of the BC Energy Step Code for new residential construction, and many builders are pushing to Step 5 and beyond. Finch Drive, one of the corridor's first net-zero-ready communities, is leading the way. This kind of forward-thinking construction deserves photography that captures not just what a building looks like, but how it performs and why it matters.

I work with the architects, builders, interior designers, and trades professionals shaping Squamish's built environment — from the kitchen suppliers and millwork shops to the window companies and glazing specialists whose products define these spaces.

Working Together

What to expect when you hire a local architectural photographer

Every engagement begins with a discovery call. We talk about what you've built, who you built it for, and what the imagery needs to accomplish — whether that's winning a Georgie Award, refreshing your website, or building a social media library you can draw from for months.

From there, I handle the entire process: scheduling around optimal light conditions, coordinating with stagers and designers if needed, shooting, editing, and delivering a complete set of high-resolution files ready for print and digital use. Turnaround is typically two weeks.

No add-ons, no surprise line items. Exterior architecture, interior wide angles, detail vignettes, aerial drone coverage, and twilight shots are all part of a standard project engagement. You get a complete visual record — not a piecemeal quote you have to assemble yourself.

I work as a creative partner, not a vendor. That means I'm invested in helping your imagery work as hard as your builds do — across award submissions, proposals, websites, and social media channels.

Common Questions

Architectural photography in Squamish — FAQ

How much does architectural photography cost in Squamish?
Pricing depends on the scope of the project — number of spaces, whether aerial and twilight coverage is needed, and whether you require short-form video alongside stills. I offer all-inclusive project rates with no add-on fees for drone, twilight, or editing. Book a discovery call and I'll provide a detailed quote based on your specific project.
Do you charge travel fees for shoots in Squamish?
No. I'm based in Squamish, so there are no travel charges for local projects. For shoots in Whistler, Pemberton, or the Sunshine Coast, travel is typically included as well since these are all within my regular service area along the Sea-to-Sky corridor.
What if the weather is bad on shoot day?
Being local means I can reschedule same-day if conditions shift. Squamish weather changes fast — a rainy morning can turn into a clear afternoon. I monitor conditions closely and will always recommend a reschedule if it means significantly better results. There's no cost for weather-related rescheduling.
Can you photograph projects for award submissions like the Georgie Awards?
Yes — award and publication imagery is one of my core services. I understand what Georgie, CHBA, and HAVAN judges look for and compose specifically for submission requirements and editorial standards. I also offer a free guide on preparing your project for award submissions.
Do you offer drone photography for Squamish builds?
Yes. I'm a Transport Canada certified Advanced Drone Pilot, which is required for commercial drone operations. Aerial coverage is included in every standard project engagement — there's no separate add-on fee. This is particularly valuable for Squamish projects where the mountain and water setting is a defining feature of the architecture.
How far in advance should I book?
Two to four weeks in advance is ideal, especially during the busy season (May through October). For retainer clients, I reserve dedicated monthly capacity so scheduling is always flexible. If you have an urgent need — a listing going live, a last-minute award deadline — reach out and I'll do my best to accommodate.
